1. Product Information

DirectMedia Xtra(tm) is a product that gives developers
using Director(tm) or Authorware(tm) complete control over
Mpeg and AVI files. It uses Microsofts ActiveMovie(tm)
(or its successor, DirectShow(tm)) engine to display high-quality,
high-performance MPEG video using only software decompression.

DirectMedia Xtra(tm) is the first Xtra that supports creation and
editing of cue points directly in Director(tm) or Authorware(tm).
It is also tightly integrated into the authoring environment, with
WYSIWYG preview and dynamic resizing and placement of media files.
Among its features are control of an automatic toolbar, volume,
balance, speed, cursor and full screen playback.
Director(tm) 6 users can also use the behaviors supplied with
DirectMedia Xtra(tm) for easy creation of buttons and slider bars.

Director(tm) and Authorware(tm) use the old MCI and VideoForWindows
interface to control built-in playback of AVI and MPEG files.
By using the DirectShow(tm) interface, DirectMedia Xtra(tm) can use
DirectDraw(tm) and DirectSound(tm) if these services are available in
the playback machine. The developer takes advantage of a modern and
robust interface, eliminating the configuration issues and driver
incompatibilities that are common among different MCI MPEG drivers.

The Xtra can also play Media files from Intranet or HTTP-based servers,
with full support for streaming content.

2. System Requirements

DirectMedia Xtra(tm) is compatible with Windows 95(tm), 98(tm)
and Windows NT 4(tm). 8 MB of RAM and a Pentium-120 MHz CPU
are recommended for good performance. Your system also
needs ActiveMovie(tm) (or its successor, DirectShow(tm))
installed. All versions of Windows 95(tm) and Windows NT(tm)
shipped after November/96 have the ActiveMovie(tm) engine
pre-installed. ActiveMovie is also installed automatically with
Internet Explorer 3 and 4.
DirectMedia Xtra(tm) also requires the ActiveX(tm) network libraries.
These libraries are installed by all versions of Internet Explorer(tm)
and also by several other products, including Microsoft Office(tm).
For users that do not have this sofware you can freely redistribute
the ActiveMovie(tm) and ActiveX(tm) installers with your products.
The ActiveMovie(tm) and ActiveX(tm) runtimes can be downloaded
from our site at www.tbaiana.com.
Proof of purchase is required to download the runtimes.

3. How to Order and Register

The unregistered version of DirectMedia Xtra is fully functional
for trial purposes, but you can not save the movies you create.
DirectMedia Xtra can be purchased online from our web site
(www.tbaiana.com) , using SSL encryption. An international
credit card is required for payment.

You do not need to download a new version of the Xtra.
After your order is processed you will receive a serial number
that can be used to register the Xtra already installed on your
machine.

To register you should double-click a DirectMedia Xtra castmember
(icon) and select "Register" in the Properties dialog box.
After registration is completed you will be able to save the
movies with DirectMedia Xtra cast members normally.

Please keep your serial number archived.
You will need it to register again if you re-install Director
(Authorware) or the DirectMedia Xtra.

4. How to use DirectMedia Xtra(tm)

Please consult the User Guide installed with the product for
information on how to use the Xtra(tm). There are separate
User Guides for Director(tm) and Authorware(tm) users.
Director(tm) 6 and 7 users can also use the behaviours supplied
for easy control of DirectMedia Xtra(tm) castmembers.
